Tonight from Carson California, Showtime hosts a stacked triple header headlined by Robert Guerrero vs Yoshihio Kamegai. On the under-card two of the most talented amateurs in the past 20 years square off in a throwback fight. Also, Devon Alexander faces the rugged Jesus Soto Karass.
What is going to happen when these six men step in the ring?
Devon Alexander is coming off the worst performance of his career when he was beat down by Shawn Porter last year. Soto Karass is also coming off a hard loss to Keith Thurman in his last fight. Both guys desperately need a victory if they want to stay in the conversation at welterweight. Look for Alexander to run away in this fight. Alexander has the perfect style to give Soto Karass trouble. Don’t expect any fireworks in this one. Alexander by wide decision.
In the co-feature, Gary Russell jr takes on two time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko for the vacant WBO featherweight title. Both men are in their physical primes and have the chance to become huge stars. This fight is reminiscent of Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr. Look for Russell jr to have too much hand spend and experience for the raw Lomachenko. Russell jr by decision.
In the main event, Robert Guerrero comes back from a 13 month layoff to take on the largely unknown Yoshihiro Kamegai. Guerrero will likely have a good deal of ring rust to shake off. However, this is the right for him to do it in. Kamegai is nowhere near the class of Guerrero, which is why he was chosen. Guerrero by decision.
