Omaha, Nebraska – In unusual territory, and for the first time in 42 years, a major title fight takes place in Nebraska. Hometown kid Terence Crawford takes on former gold medalist Yuriorkis Gamboa in a pick em fight.
Gamboa has been incredibly inactive the past couple years. He has failed to impress since leaving Top Rank to go and fight for rapper turned promoter 50 Cent. His most recent win over Darley Perez last year was anything but impressive.
Crawford is coming off a career performance when he went to Ricky Burns’ backyard of Glasgow, Scotland and won a wide unanimous decision. However, it remains to be seen if Crawford has the experience level or demeanor to beat a fighter like Gamboa.
Gamboa hasn’t looked as fast of powerful since his move up in weight. His chin has always been his Achilles heel, and should he get caught clean at 135 his huge heart may not be enough as it has been in the past. Look for Crawford to box from a distance and try to control the range. Gamboa will have no chance fighting at distance and will be forced to make it an ugly fight. Crawford will not respond well and will struggle fighting on the inside. Gamboa by stoppage in the middle rounds.
