This weekend Madison Square Garden plays host to one of the biggest boxing events of the year. Three division champion Miguel Cotto moves up to middleweight to challenge long time champion Sergio Martinez. Should Cotto win he would be the first ever Puerto Rican fighter to win titles in four divisions. Martinez is looking to cement his legacy and make a statement against a fighter who has long avoided him.
So what happens when these two get in the ring? Both men have a lot of questions to answer this weekend. Miguel Cotto is fighting for his first time at middleweight even though junior middleweight did not appear to suit his frame. Martinez is coming off a very disappointing performance against Martin Murray in his native Argentina. He is also coming back from a string of nasty injuries and a 14 month layoff.
Cotto and his team are hoping that they are getting Martinez at just the right time, They are badly mistaken. Look for Martinez to be too big and too strong for the much smaller Cotto. This fight will look a lot like Cotto vs Trout, except Martinez is a real puncher. Martinez by dominating stoppage in less than eight rounds.
