Montreal, Canada – Adonis Stevenson outlasted the game challenger Andrzej Fonfara winning a unanimous decision by scores of 115-110 twice and 116-109. This fight was one of the great light heavyweight title fights in a storied division.

Stevenson started the fight out very strong. In round one Stevenson came out throwing hard combinations. Midway through the round Stevenson dropped Fonfara hard with a left to head. Fonfara beat the count and managed to survive a storm of punches unloaded by Stevenson. Rounds two through four were all Stevenson, he out worked and wobbled Fonfara many times throughout the early rounds. In round five Stevenson dropped Fonfara for the second time, this time with a viscous body shot. Fonfara was once again able to beat the count and survive the round.

Rounds six and seven were all Stevenson as he continued to dig to the body and throw hard combinations. Fonfara began to find his rhythm in round eight as he began to land his right hand. In round nine Fonfara shocked everyone in the sold out Bell Centre as he stunned Stevenson with a left hook and dropped him with a straight right hand. Stevenson managed to weather the storm and survive the round, although he looked very fatigued. The championship rounds were highly contested as both men left everything they had in the ring. The final minute of the bout was one for the ages. Both men threw everything they had searching for a last second knockout. Neither got it.

This fight ended Stevenson’s ten fight knockout streak and showed many of his flaws. Following the fight he called out the 49 year old IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins. The fight will likely take place around the end of this year.
