Tomorrow night future hall of famer Juan Manuel Marquez will once again step into the squared circle with a young hungry challenger. He faces former WBO junior welterweight champion Mike Alvarado in a welterweight clash. The fight will take place at the Forum in Los Angeles.
Both men are coming off defeats. Although, Alvarado has suffered by far more punishment in his previous few fights than has Maquez. Alvarado is 1-2 in his last 3 fights with both loses coming by knockout. He suffered a savage beating at the hands of Ruslan Provodnikov late last year. Marquez is coming off a one sided decision loss to Tim Bradley, although he is only two fights removed from his one punch destruction of Manny Pacquiao.
Laughably, the winner of this fight will almost certainly face Manny Pacquiao later this year.
Lets get to the pick.
Alvarado, although moving up to welterweight for the first time is by far the bigger man. He is faster than Marquez and has solid punching power. Marquez is in the twilight of his career and looks slower and slower every time he steps into the ring. He should have retired after his miraculous KO of Pacquiao, but is often the case with pro fighters, he chooses to fight on. Both men are easy to hit, although only one responds well to being hit. Alvarado’s weak chin will be his undoing Saturday night against the stiffest challenge of his professional career. Marquez by brutal mid rounds KO.
