The co-feature for Floyd Mayweather’s fight on May 3rd has finally been set. British star Amir Khan will face Brooklyn’s Luis Collazo in a twelve round welterweight contest. The winner will become the favourite to face the pound for pound king in September, should he be successful against Marcos Maidana.
Khan has be very vocal in calling out Floyd Mayweather for the past six months, but has not been eager to earn the fight. He ducked out of a fight with former IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander in December believing that he would land Mayweather regardless. Khan was last in the ring over a year ago when he barely got past journeyman Julio Diaz.
Collazo has taken a much different road than the prima donna he faces May 3rd. He has faced a laundry list of big name fighters including the likes of Shane Mosley, Ricky Hatton and Andre Berto. He arguably should have beaten Hatton and Berto but was snubbed on the scorecards. In his last fight he knocked out the returning Victor Ortiz in the second round this past January.
Khan already seems to be looking past the extremely dangerous Collazo stating that; “I’ll probably be at ringside for Mayweather’s fight against Maidana and will call him out again in the press conference.” Collazo will doubt do everything in his power to make sure that doesn’t happen.
