Future Hall of Famer Juan Manuel Marquez has agreed to terms to face former junior welterweight champion Mike Alvarado on May 17th. The bout is scheduled to be fought at a catch weight of 143 lbs and will be held at the Forum in Los Angeles broadcasted live by HBO.
Both men are coming off disappointing defeats in their previous fights. Marquez is coming off a decision loss WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley. Alvarado is looking to rebound from his October stoppage loss to the hard hitting Ruslan Provodnikov.
Marquez’s choice to fight Alvarado is a very puzzling one. He made it clear that he had no interest in facing Ruslan Provodnikov, stating that; “a win over Provodnikov does nothing for me.” It is hard to imagine that a victory over the man who was just knocked out by Provodnikov will do much for him either.
