Australia’s most outspoken athlete has announced his next fight. Anthony Mundine (46-5) will face former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (37-4) in a junior middleweight bout on April 2nd. The fight will be held at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre and will be Mundine’s third fight in less than six months.
Mundine is coming off a unanimous decision victory over part time fighter, full time tradie Gunnar Jackson (18-4-3) in January. Mundine was scheduled to face fringe contender Carson Jones who pulled out of the fight giving only a few weeks notice. Although Clottey has been extremely inactive lately, he will serve as a step up from Mundine’s recent competition.
Clottey, who has fought only three times in the last four years, is coming off a unanimous decision over the destitute Dashon Johnson (14-12-3). His last noteworthy fight resulted in a unanimous decision loss to Manny Pacquiao in 2010. Clottey is most known for his decision victory over Zab Judah in 2008.
This fight is a must win for both fighters; at their age, a loss for either man could spell the end.
