Ortiz vs Collazo: Prediction

Tonight former welterweight champion “Viscous” Victor Ortiz makes his long awaited return to the ring against the once promising Luis Collazo. The fight takes place in New York City, and will be fought at the welterweight limit of 147 lbs.

Ortiz last fought in 2012 when was stopped by Josesito Lopez after suffering a broken jaw. Since the fight Ortiz has been recovering and also had a short stint on the barely relevant reality series Dancing With The Stars.

Collazo is currently riding a three fight winning streak, although against weak competition. His last loss came in 2011 to journeyman Freddy Hernandez. Collazo has been incredibly inactive since his razor close decision loss to Andre Berto in 2009. Collazo is known by boxing fans for his narrow losses to Ricky Hatton, Shane Mosley, and Andre Berto.

Ortiz is likely to be extremely rusty considering his lengthy layoff. He also is extremely weak mentally, so look for this to be relatively close fight. Collazo usually manages to do just enough to lose close, and has never beat an elite level fighter. Ortiz by a close but unanimous decision.
