This weekend marks the first stacked fight weekend of 2014. Network rivals HBO and Showtime will both be hosting double-headers from the east coast. In the nation’s capital, hometown fighter Lamont Peterson will defend his IBF junior welterweight title against Haitian born Canadian Dierry Jean. In the co-featured bout undefeated Jermell Charlo takes on the rugged Gabe Rosado.
HBO will host their night of fights from Madison Square Garden in NYC. On the under-card, American Bryant Jennings will face Poland’s Arthur in a battle of two young undefeated heavyweights. In the main event, Mikey Garcia defends his WBO super featherweight title against Juan Carlos Burgos.
Charlo vs Rosado – This is arguably the toughest fight to predict this weekend. Rosado has clearly been in with the better competition, although he has lost to most of them. He is also the bigger man, but will moving back down to junior middleweight affect him? The pick is Charlo by a close and possibly controversial decision.
Peterson vs Jean – Lamont is coming off the most disappointing performance of his career. Jean will be hoping to catch him at the perfect time. He wont. Peterson by unanimous decision.
Szpilka vs Jennings – This is also a tough fight to predict. Largely due to the face that Szpilka is something of an unknown commodity. He has fought the majority of his fights in Europe. The pick is Jennings by a close decision.
Garcia vs Burgos – Nothing tough about this fight. This fight is a mismatch and one that nobody was calling for. Garcia by mid rounds KO.
