Pascal Dominates

Tonight in Montreal,  Jean Pascal completely dominated former champion Lucian Bute. The crowd was totally behind Bute as Pascal opted to play the bad guy during most of the build up. It didn’t make any difference. Pascal was clearly the faster and more skilled fighter, making Bute look amateurish at times

Pascal fought his usual style, in and out with high volume bursts of activity. Bute seemed completely unable to let his hands go, and when he did, he payed for it. Pascal stunned Bute numerous times in the first half of the fight with wide clubbing shots. As the fight wore on Pascal seemed to slow a little, and as he usually does, he began to lose his concentration. Bute was unable to capitalize however and spent the majority of the second half of the fight simply posing with Pascal.

There was some slight drama in the 12th round as Pascal seemed to get a little bit stunned while playing hurt in the corner. He never seemed to be in real danger though and burst back at Bute nearly knocking him down. The scorecards were much too close for a fight that wasn’t, but the right man won.

Pascal certainly didn’t win any fans with his poor post fight interview. Pascal foolishly admitted to going easy on Bute in the 12th round to help build the rematch. There won’t be one hopefully. Pascal should instead target Adonis Stevenson in what would be a huge event. He showed little interest in a Stevenson clash when asked by Max Kellerman. A much more likely fight would be either a rematch with Carl Froch or a showdown with light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev.

What did you think of Pascal’s performance? Who should he fight next? Let me know in the comments section below.
