After his crushing fourth round knockout of Nicolia Firtha, it seems that the sky is the limit for “The Bronze Bomber” Deontay Wilder, now 30-0 with 30 KOs. After another big knockout, Richard Schaeffer is now targeting a 2014 match-up against Bermane Stiverne, stating that; “I anticipate he [Vitali] will no longer fight and that the title will become vacant. My goal is to have Deontay fight in his next fight for the WBC heavyweight championship against Bermane Stiverne. And after that go for Wladimir Klitschko, unify all the titles and have an undisputed champion.”
Stiverne would pose a big threat to the undefeated but largely untested Wilder, and is a very big step up in competition. Stiverne would also pose an interesting style clash for Wilder, the winner of the fight will be the one who can control the distance which the fight is fought at. If Wilder can use his jab and keep Stiverne on the outside then it will be an easy night, although should Stiverne get on the inside, which many of Wilder’s opponents have been able to do, then it will be a long hard night for the Alabama native.
Regardless of who wins, this will be a very big and exciting fight in the resurgent heavyweight division. Hopefully this fight actually takes place, and is not just hype.
