Tonight, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Thomas and Mack Center; Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley will make the second defense of his WBO welterweight title squaring off against future hall-of-famer, Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez is coming off the most impressive win of his amazing career, a one punch destruction of Manny Pacquiao. Bradley is coming off a less than spectacular performance against the tough and rugged Ruslan Provodnikov, in which he was dropped and badly hurt but managed to squeeze out a close decision.
Marquez is 40 years old and fighting at a much higher weight than he should be, and he has struggled in the past with fast boxers. Although Bradley is ten years Marquez’s junior, he is also fighting a division higher than where he proved to be the most effective, and has looked less than amazing in his last three outings. There are also question marks around Bradley’s chin after the beating he took at the hands of Provodnikov.
So, with all the different factors around the fight, who will win? The advantage in speed, elusiveness, and athleticism goes to Bradley, while Marquez is the superior technical boxer and has the advantage in punching power and chin. Marquez pulled off what many thought was impossible in his last fight, but what seems to have been forgotten, is how slow and poor he looked outside of two monster right hands. Bradley was not sharp in his last fight, although he was coming off a long layoff and did not stick to his game plan against an opponent he was less than excited about.
I expect this to be a relatively close fight, Marquez will certainly have his moments in the later part of the fight, but i expect Tim Bradley to be too fast and too determined for the aging warrior. Look for Bradley to win a close unanimous decision between 8-4 and 7-5.
