This Saturday night, in Indio California, the resurgent heavyweight division will host yet another promising match up which happens to feature two popular American heavyweights. The former Michigan State linebacker Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell (26-1-1 19 KOs) takes on former title challenger Cristobal “The Nightmare” Arreola (35-3 30 KOs). This will be Arreola’s first bout since his one-sided unanimous decision loss to Bermane Stiverne earlier this year. In Mitchell’s last appearance he avenged his disastrous second round knockout loss to Johnathan Banks, by winning a unanimous decision victory.
The bout promises to be action-packed, as neither guy ever seems to take a step back, and both lack the ability and stamina to box intelligently for 12 rounds. Another indicator of the type of action we could see on Saturday night is Arreola’s very open dislike for Seth Mitchell; Arreola previously told Boxingscene radio that; “It won’t go past 6. I am going to bring the heat up his ass. I went to train in the heat to bring the heat and he is going to feel it… I am going to whoop his ass. Not only will I whoop his ass but I will be talking shit while I do it. I hate this fucking guy. I will admit it. I am a hater. Fuck it. I hate this guy,”
This is the undoubtedly the most important fight of either man’s career; the winner will likely face the heavy handed 2008 bronze medal winner, Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder in a high profile bout at the end of this year. The loser will have a very long road back to any fight of significance.
Although neither fighter really has much of a chance to be the heavyweight salvation that the United States has so desperately hoped for, they both bring something that the heavyweight division has been lacking as of late; excitement. This weekend will be no exception.
