Mayweather vs Canelo: The Event Of The Year

On Septemeber 14th, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas NV, Floyd Mayweather (44-0 26 KOs) will once again be on boxing’s biggest stage; this time against the young undefeated Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1 30 KOs). On paper, Saul Alvarez appears to be Mayweather’s toughest test to date; he has the advantage in size, strength, and youth. The fight will be Mayweather’s third fight at the junior middleweight class.  The lineal junior middleweight title will be on the line as well as Saul Alvarez’s alphabet trinkets.

This is the second fight of Mayweather’s record breaking six fight deal with Showtime. This is also the quickest turnaround Mayweather has had in nearly ten years. Both fighters are coming off massive wins; Saul Alvarez defeated the previously unbeaten Austin “no doubt” Trout to become the Ring Magazine champion of the junior middleweight division, and Floyd Mayweather easily outpointed Robert “the ghost” Guerrero to become the Ring Magazine Champion of the welterweight division.

On the under-card Argentine knock out artist Lucas Matthysse (34-2 32 KOs) will face undefeated WBC and Ring Magazine champion Danny Garcia (26-0 16 KOs). This fight promises to deliver fireworks and will finally decide who is the best at 140 lbs. Lucas Matthysse has been calling for the match for years and is now finally getting the fight that he hoped for.

    • I think so too. I would be very surprised if Matthysse didnt KO Garcia. Mayweather has a shot of KOing Canelo though… he fades really bad in fights and he may get stopped late.
