Is Daniel Geale The Real Deal?

Image

On August 17th, in Atlantic City, New Jersey,  Australia’s Daniel Geale (29-1 15KO) will face England’s Darren Barker (25-1 16KO) in a 12 round Middleweight contest  with his IBF title on the line. This will be Daniel Geale’s first time fighting on American soil, and Barker’s second. Daniel Geale is no stranger to fighting on the road, having twice gone to Germany, both times escaping with split decision wins and the other man’s title (Sebastian Sylvester 2011 for the IBF title, Felix Sturm 2012 in a unification for the IBF and WBA titles). This trip has more on the line though, taking place in the world famous Atlantic City, and being aired on the American cable giant HBO. A win in impressive fashion could also be rewarded with the chance to face either Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez or Gennady Golovkin.

This leaves us to the question, is Daniel “The Real Deal” Geale, just that? Or, is he a good fighter who has yet to face elite competition? Getting past Darren Barker may not be enough to prove that…. but it will get him one step closer to finding out.

  1. I think he’ll win by points, definitely not by knock out as we saw earlier in the year against Mundine. He’s fast and quick – good luck to him! PS great writing babe

  2. I havent ever seen Geale fight. I hope that he does well. Middleweight needs more challengers. Who is GGG gonna knock out otherwise?

    • I am definitely not writing him off. I see this be a very close fight. I am just not convinced that Barker has what it takes to gut out a close fight. He had Sergio in a lot of trouble, but it was as if he gave up. He quite throwing punches and gave away the fight. I see him doing just enough to loose a close decision. I just made a post with my official predictions have a look.
